There is no doubt that most photographers know about the WPPI 2010 Convention happening in the deserts of Las Vegas, Nevada. All of the vendors I know and use in the business are all packed and ready to show their latest and greatest to more than 15,000 photographers attending from different parts of the globe.
The who’s who in wedding and portrait photography will be in Las Vegas this weekend. If your photographer is not in Vegas this week, you should ask them WHY NOT?!?!?!
The WPPI 2010 buzz is loud and clear. Everyone wants to be a part of it. Whether going to the trade show, the classes, the shootouts, the workshops, the rockstar photographers, the parties or just mingling with people in the hallways of the MGM Grand and connecting with like minded people is something to be really excited about.
In the past 2 years I have been trying to figure out how to take my business to the next level and 10 out of 10 photographers that I talked to that has been to the past WPPI Conventions swear that they have taken home more than what they can handle. I decided to kick it up a notch and try to get the most out of this awesome event.
As I sit at gate 3 in LAX awaiting my flight, I meditate on how I’m going to wisely spend my time in Vegas. I’m starting to feel the adrenaline as I anticipate the energy that will hit me in the coming week. An intense 2-day workshop with Cliff Mautner, 1 full day of Business Institute, 3 Master Classes and major networking is no joke, people. A lot of things to learn, people to meet and gadgets to put my hands on.
Stay tuned as I try (note: TRY) to post blog updates of day to day happenings during WPPI.

What are you waiting for, the eclipse?
This portrait session is long overdue on the blog. I really had a blast with this session, I mean really. The kids are hilarious. It took them a while to warm up to the camera – but after a few shots, hilarity ensued. Here are some shots:

Saturday, December 26 marks the day of the Pioneer’s Meeting for 2009. We all had dinner afterwards at the Ferrer’s and thought I’d grab the opportunity to work on some portraits for the Regular Pioneers. Here’s the set:

More and more friends and family are running to their favorite camera stores and buying digital SLR cameras. I get calls every so often about friends wanting to learn how to use it. In digital photography, there is a bit of a learning curve but it’s not rocket science. A couple hours of explanation and practical application and you’d be ready to rock that dSLR camera.
I will be holding a workshop early 2010 (maybe some time in March) and I will teach you the basics of exposure, what those program modes (M, P, Av, Tv, S, etc) mean and how and when to use them. We’ll also talk a bit about lighting and whatever else you want to discuss, time permitting. By the end of the workshop you will know YOUR camera and be in command. Seats will be limited so if you’re interested, contact me right away.
Feel free to drop me a note at photos@rengiemendoza.com if you’re interested. If there’s enough interest out there we might be able to make it earlier than March.
What are you waiting for, the eclipse?
It’s always a treat taking photos with couples as low key as DK and Ria. I had such a great time in this shoot and I can’t wait for your wedding next year.

A day after John and Maureen’s wedding I second shot for Jon at Eric and Kirsten’s Wedding at the Westridge Country Club in La Habra.
Special thanks to Jon of 33rd way Productions for having me as the second shooter. As tired as I am from the previous day’s wedding, I had a great time shooting.
Geek Note: This set is processed using the beta version of Adobe Lightroom 3. Enjoy!

Congrats to John and Maureen!!! And thank you for the privilege of shooting your wedding. Have fun on your honeymoon in Hawaii and see you in a couple of weeks!!!
